| He’s smart. Honestly, I have no faith there will be anything approaching current Social Security or Medicare after the Boomers are gone. The social contract is completely frayed, we are about to face a huge demographic decline, and we will have no choice but to cut these programs. The options, for those lucky enough to have them, will be to live like paupers and save every extra penny so you can stop working a few years before your body gives out, work until you die, or rely on your children for support when you can’t work anymore. You know, just like it was for most of history. |
| I am in my mid-40s now and wish I was more focused on retirement savings when I was younger. I probably could have retired now had I thought about retirement more in my 30s. That being said, I had a great life when I was young, and healthy, footloose and fancy free. I had sport cars, amazing apartments, travels, over the top parties. It was fun. So there is that. I have family and children now and I am definitely focused on retirement planning these days. Everyone is different and has different priorities in life. I would think that most parents worry when kids are not focused enough on their retirement. Either way, your child is a grownup now, so all you can do is to gently guide if your advice is appreciated. |
