Sell 10 year old used car for $15K. Buy new car for $30K. Now you have new tires, new battery, new manufacturer warranty.

Why new car is 30k? Lol. Try $50k - and not a luxury brand. Hondas and Toyotas.

Exaggerate much? Idiot. Try not buying a stupid SUV.

I can’t believe anyone finds useful “advice “ on this forum.

PP said “10 year old used car for $15k.” The kind of car that is worth $15k at 10 years old is worth a lot more than $30k new. It’s not apples to apples.

I’m the PP. the new car 10 years ago was 32k at the time. Sold it for 17k and the used car lot then relisted it for 21k a few days later.

I then bought a new car for 32k out the door.

Okay, well my 8 year old car is currently worth about $15k, and to replace it new with the same model and trim would close to $50k.

On what planet? I just bought a brand new Subaru Outback for $32K.

In another market I probably would have bought a hybrid. But my family’s only car had died and you know what they had on the lot? Outbacks. So that’s what I bought. Not complaining, it’s a great car, but the market is what it is right now.

I'm not in the DMV area but Subaru Outbacks by me are $40K. If I am going to spend that much I think I want a larger car...

I was reading today that used car prices are coming down.

We’ll see. It will need to continue for a long time or at higher percentages to make any meaningful difference.

Oh yeah. We just got paid $2k for a 20 year old minivan with high miles and LOTS of love.

It’s interesting because I’m in the market for a new car and have been putting out some feelers to various dealers. (I’m in the DMV.) Dealers are calling me back like crazy and trying to convince me to buy. Some are doing the hard sell. I would’ve thought given the market, they wouldn’t need to be doing so much leg work and would have buyers tripping over themselves to get these cars. I don’t know if this is usual car sales tactics or if there really isn’t the demand everyone is saying.

They’ll at least call you back now, but don’t confuse that for good deals. They think if they offer you MSRP or $500 under it’s some kind of gift. I’ll wait.

Doesn't every dealer salesman do this? It is their job. They sit a desk with computer and a phone all day. Using a spreadsheet/database to keep track of customers and send auto emails.
