Like ski week in upstate NY?

I'm from upstate NY and seemed like everyone went somewhere warmer. But yeah, I wish that had been an option in that "survey" MCPS sent out. I'd rather have a week in Feb. over two weeks at the holidays.

Those half-days are when parent-teacher conferences are going to be scheduled.

Patently false claim.

It's still 180 days (more for MCPS bc of built in snow days) of school. Every. Single. Year. Yet every year we have a stupid thread like this.

So you'd be cool if MCPS decides to open for just 3 days a week during the winter and send kids to school for 2 days per week through the summer because it all adds up to 180 days of instruction at the end of the day? Why can't people complain about how MCPS decides to allocate those 180 days? For example, I think it's perfectly reasonable for folks to complain about the number of half days or random closed days during the first few months of school. I'm sure many (most?) would prefer that this off time be rolled into a string of days off for a fall break or to have the entire Thanksgiving week off.

This isn’t a bad idea at all. Both students and teachers would have plenty of days for medical appointments and avoid burnout. It would end summer learning loss. It’s not great for teachers who supplement their income with summer jobs like camp, bartending, and lawn care, but maybe some would do retail on the days schools are closed. Please propose this.

Private schools use Election Day or Veterans Day for conferences since they know most parents have the day off

No. God, what a horrible idea.

And it's not like you can't look up the holidays on a calendar you know it's not some esoteric information that cannot be easily googled.

Dcum has to blame the union for everything. I stubbed my toe yesterday, it was probably the Union's fault
