Hi PP - good to hear your feedback that BCC is a good place to learn. Are academics strong? I hear Pyle/Whitman are stronger academically than Westland/ BCC. Any feedback would be appreciated. |

1 Whitman
2 BCC 3 Wilson/Jackson Reed This is the ranking you are looking for. Whitman scores the best. It's very white. Most consistent with teachers. Wilson is struggling because of DC resources and crazy overcrowding. If your kids is smart, easy going and can stay of of trouble, he'll do great and will love Wilson as much as the others. Signed parent who left Deal/Wilson and moved to BCC with 3 kids, eventually switching 1 to private. All turned out ok! |
BCC academics are strong (or, more precisely, there is ample opportunity to pursue strong academics at BCC). My kid recently finished and did the IB diploma program which gave them a chance to do an extended writing project and also do in depth history etc. About 90 kids a years are doing full IB and then lots do, say, IB English but AP classes for the sciences. |
Hi PP, so would you recommend Westland/BCC then or is Pyle/Whitman stronger? |
Thank you PP! |
| I would go wherever you like the housing. That said we found a house we liked in BCC and were glad because it is slightly less white/wealthy and Whitman has had a rep as a pressure cooker. |
Kids can get as much as they want out of both BCC and Whitman, same with the middle schools. There is no appreciable difference in overall academic quality...although folks on this list will say that there is. I do agree that Whitman has more of a pressure cooker reputation, but the outcomes are the same. |

Here are the At a Glance links to the 2 MCPS high schools (we are inside the Beltway in Bethesda attending WJ and love it, if your rental list cover any places just beyond the Whitman and B-CC boundaries).

I like to call out racists who don't like diversity |
One day school will be about academics again. Just need to survive this era of SJW's... |
I'm sure WJ has been good, but it's just so overcrowded--15 portable classrooms this year! |
I like to call out race baiters who try to deflect from what’s important in school which is the academics. |
as a biracial family, I wouldn't want my kids in a non diverse school As someone who grew up lower income, and then became UMC and lived in a UMC expensive town, I also wouldn't want my kids in a school that was full of primarily wealthy kids. That has its own challenges. So, yes, school is more than just about academics. And I say this as a parent of a magnet DC who gets straight As, so academics is very important to us, too. MCPS has its share of issues, but IMO, the programming and diversity are one of the few things I like about MCPS. |
| I think OP is a troll. Still hasn't answered what type of subjects and extra curriculars their kid is interested in. |
I understand you and have no issue in what you say. The diversity thing is just beat into the ether and has been put in front of academics. There is diversity already at most schools. I have never nor my children been to a school where everyone is the same. Never. Both public and private. This area is one of the most international and diverse areas in the country. You will get diversity. Now, back to focusing on academics as it should be. |
