Uhmm a lot of things. |
Depending on the state or commonwealth, shouldn't the assessor's website in the home state and/or Florida show which home is homestead except?

Bc none of the rest of you pay much in taxes. The top 1 percent (taxpayers with AGI of $546,434 and above) earned 20.1 percent of total AGI in 2019 and paid 38.8 percent of all federal income taxes. In 2019, the top 1 percent of taxpayers accounted for more income taxes paid than the bottom 90 percent combined. |
Paul Lepage, a former Maine governor, who is running again, is under the microscope for this right now. |
Flordia is very strict with this. They look at credit card receipts, ez pass, utility bills, etc. |
How'd he get busted? |
lol. Bullcrap. No muni can audit millions of residents. The average muni employee is a lazy sob. |
In addition to massive tax savings, it makes it so your Florida mansion can't be seized in any judgments. If a rich person owns a mansion in Florida, just assume it's their "legal residence". Safe bet. |
I know several local people who bought a cheap $250k house in Florida to avoid state income tax at the advice of accountants. Very common. |
What are you even talking about? Florida does not care, it's all gains for Florida. It's the home state losing out. And those home states just allowed billions of unemployment fraud in 2020 and 2021, yet you think they they're so savvy they have access to credit card receipts of every UMC and rich family claiming to have moved to Florida? You're clueless. And you don't have to live in Florida full time, it's only 183 days. Easy to bullsh*t. |
You don't need to do anything OP - their cheating ways will be found out pretty quickly by the IRS because if what you're saying is true, they won't have a paper trail to back this up.
I have a friend who does this, legally. They live in CA but own a home in FL, and are planning to move there permanently in two years once DS is out of HS. They are extremely careful to keep copious records of their comings and goings, cell phone records, airline tickets, gas receipts all of it. Her DH is the main one who does most of the traveling back and forth, she joins him every other time. He's actually already changed over his DL to Florida. |
Funny how touchy dcum people are this tax dodge. |
Literally yes. And there are literally huge rewards to do so. |
This RE forum especially is a hub of landlord and airbnb sleaze who serial cheat on their taxes. It's obvious. |
I’m a Florida resident. We live in a community where about 50% of the people are snowbirds. You have to live here six months and one day in order to be considered a resident. The State is really diligent about checking. You will get caught eventually. |
