If your preschool is requiring masks this fall, I think you should assume they're going to require them forever. You should probably find a new school if you don't want your child part of that social experiment --"first generation to spend their entire childhood in masks." |
Strangely I think there is a subset of parents in this area who regard themselves as morally superior by doing this. |
That's the problem with moralizing public health. This has been framed as a moral issue in some swathes of society. Public health 101 = moralizing is terrible public health. |
But how else while a stranger know they're not a Republican? |

This is where our daycare is at too- masks are recommended, not required, although most kids and teachers seem to still be in cloth or paper masks. I think some parents are masks-forever people but I get the sense that many are afraid to go against the recommendation. It's really making me reconsider whether we want to stay there another two years, if the management truly beleives this is both effective Covid mitigation and healthy for child development. The endgame always seemed to be EUA for vaccines but now that has sailed past. |
Yes, it's brutal because there were those who said let's just wait for the EUA, just a little longer for the EUA..... well, that took much longer than anticipated AND the situation changed. COVID rates are high and vaccination status has much less of an effect on infection and transmission than it did a year ago.
It's an evolving situation but it's hard not to feel sometimes like we are being gaslit into doing this forever. Although I think daycare/preschool masking is always dumb, I think there are many of us who could accept sometimes-masking if the requirements truly went away for chunks of time as well. |
This is where I’m at- I’d accept following the CDC guidance -masking when community levels are high. But now it’s “low” again in MoCo and our daycare director still acts aghast that I don’t want to mask my fully vaccinated kid. |
Our center in MoCo has not yet said anything about masks or vaccinations for the fall. |
I’d assume the status quo- if masks are currently required, they probably still will be. If not, doubtful they’d bring a requirement back. Seems like any centers that wanted to require the vaccine under EUA would have made that clear already. |
We are at a new daycare/preschool where masks are not required, but recommended, and just about everyone is still masking. I was not going to have my 3yo DC wear a mask but I also don't want to be the ostracized parent whose kid is not invited to a birthday party. I don't even bother masking myself most places these days, it seems weird to do it just at daycare based on the current community levels ("low").

What I do in a similar situation is wear a mask myself during pickup/drop off, but I don’t put them on my kids. It’s kinda dumb but whatever, I don’t like sticking out. What I find strange at this point are the families I know who make their preschoolers wear masks but not their school aged kids. ![]() |
