I know of 6 companies so far that have decided not to recruit from VA colleges. These will be CS jobs, Data science, business analyst. And they are Big companies one starts with an A and they are not going to be moving people to VA any more either.

MOCO has pharma companies growing big time.

Youngkin is going to destroy VA so companies are going to run give it another 6 months. Fun times.

We are already exploring other options to move our small business and family. VA is turning into a MAGA trash state.

Made up BS. A company is not going to hire from UVA and Virginia Tech for Engineering/CS talent because of Youngkin? That makes no sense. Companies fall over these graduates just like they do over UT Austin (oh no its in Texas!) grads because these are some of the best public schools in the country. At least make believable arguments.

Be kind. It is difficult to leave your townhouse in Sterling and move your family and your Beachbody business to Laytonsville.

There are five very large companies in VA that are leaving and coming to MOCO

Sorry VA you elected Youngkin. They know over time the issues he is creating ie ruining schools, and more radical right-leaning is not good for business.

The only reason this has not come out yet is mid terms.

Don't beleive me that's on you. VA is so screwed.

Bwahhahahahahah

Absolute fantasy.

Tax rates are still far better in VA than MoCo..

There are 23 Fortune 500 companies in Virginia vs 6 in Maryland. Only 2 are in MoCo.

You may hate Youngkin but any smart business would see that the competition is in Virginia vs Maryland for a reason.

Wasn't there some big thing two decades ago in MoCo about them becoming a hub for biotech? What happened to that? Seems like they're all in Frederick now.

Meh, all mediocre biotech. There's astrazeneca, which is really the only top pharma company, but most of the other biotechs are very early stage companies that make almost no significant revenue. The vast majority of those biotechs are going to fail. Biotech is also notoriously unstable, and biotech jobs are much lower paying than finance, consulting, tech, etc. So. Over. Rated.

I remember in College in the 90s biotech was going to be this huge thing... everybody in engineering looking up to the biotech engineers... gosh what a flameout that was.

Discovery didn't leave Moco for Nova. They left Moco for Nashville and NYC. Amazon had already pre-determined their move to Arlington and tried to leverage MD and DC to sweeten VA's deal. Crystal City has excellent size and infrastructure bones from its pre-BRAC days, a no-brainer for Amazon to swoop in.

Agree. But NoVa certainly is attracting more corporate headquarters than Maryland or MoCo. Not even close.

Not just NoVA, Lego moved into Richmond as did some security companies. They prefer the southern states rather than the tax burdens in the north.

Because once schools start going down the drain property will follow.. Then the tax base flees because they have zero ties to MoCo. If there's no jobs, schools go down the toilet, and property values follow suit, how does the big govt machine in MoCo support itself with a crumbling tax base.

This has already happened in Moco. Agree with everything in your post except future tense.

Then why did home prices average near 1 mil just to live in Silver Spring?
