Why?

I'm another person whose love language is cooking. Why is that threatening to you?

for starter good cheese board with local beer / wines
dinner - grilled chicken and steak kebobs, served with chimichurri sauce; roasted potatoes tossed with evoo, lemon and herbs or a chilled cous cous salad; mozz and tomato salad; simple green salad
dessert - berries, whipped cream and Jenis ice cream

Yum! What time is dinner?

OP doesn’t have to just serve chicken nuggets and Mac and cheese.

For a friends' dinner this weekend, asking DH to smoke a roast for steaks, served with grilled asparagus, roasted potatoes and bought dessert. Simple but fancy enough for good friends.

+1 exactly. A person who dines out would probably appreciate a home-cooked meal.

I wouldn't be bringing people from out of town into your home. There's a pandemic.
