What happened to summer swim?

we have a membership cap- but its a little squishy and we don't count senior memberships against the membership cap.

It’s interesting how different pool cultures are. At our pool (giant swim team), I can count the number of stay at home parents on one, maybe two hands.

Ditto, our 200 member team offers evening practice starting with 8Us at 6:00 pm 3 days a week - it is restricted to only kids who have to attend camp/work, not those who sleep in or miss a morning practice for some other reason. That is why it has worked for us. My kids attend camp/aftercare.

Our pool typically has about 180 kid on swim team.

I think there are a number of reasons summer swim has died down since the 80s.

1. As others have mentioned, more 2 working parent households. With practices from 7:30-noon and many kids going to camp this means a lot of kids can't do swim team. It takes commitment to swim team for parents to decided to hire a sitter instead of camp so kids can do swim team. We made this move once we had 2 school-aged kids.

2. Kids specializing in sports early on. When I was a kid in the 80s there weren't spots that ran all summer long. We lose a lot of swim team kids around age 11 to sports like baseball and lacrosse.

OP is not talking about KCC- I suspect they are talking about mcsl or nvsl bc KCC membership is open and two records have been broken in the last two years and from the looks of it, more will fall in the next few years bc of a few stellar younger swimmers
