Rented a Rug Doctor To Deep Clean My Carpets And…..

OP Here:

Do you have a link for this?
Unfortunately I am not technologically too computer savvy…..

Eew after reading these posts it was a HUGE relief to return the Rug Doctor back to the store.
It even grossed me out to put that dang thing in the trunk of my car.

Yeah, to be courteous AND avoid a cleaning fee - I cleaned the bottom of the machine (rollers) as best as I could.
The underside was just N-A-S-T-Y…..
And emptying out both clean + dirty water containers was no better‼️

My carpets look AND smell better but I still have some stubborn cat dried imbedded feces to get to.
(Though definitely much less than what I had previously.)

I think I will spray the areas w/Nature’s Miracle enzyme overnight > then the next day mix some leftover Rug Doctor detergent w/some hot tap water and try to scrape it out using a strong-bristled scrub brush.

Hopefully this will leave my home bearable until the Fall when I can get my carpets replaced.
I need a few mos to save money plus it’s super hot and humid now and I don’t feel like moving around all of my heavy furniture!!

As much as I love pets, once I get my house back in shape it is highly unlikely that I will adopt another cat.
Litter box issues are just really tough, I cannot imagine doing all this clean-up in another 12-15 yrs.

And I know that at my particular age (53,) I shouldn’t be in so much pain after pushing around this machine.
Believe it or not my body is STILL achy.

I rely on Ibuprofen and my legs are really bruised.

OP Here,

Oh I just found the green machine that you mentioned on Amazon.
It is made by Bissell & co$ts $129.

I might just purchase this.
It isn’t too large (and thus heavy!) and appears geared for cleaning up pet stains.

Thx.

Yes, I do admit the Rug Doctor itself is pretty gross when I think of all the things other people have used it to clean.
The visual does make me feel a tad 🤢.

It was actually kinda filthy the day I rented it - I had something get stuck inside temporarily & when I turned the machine over to pull it out…..

It was just GROSS.
I cannot wait to return this dang thing back to the store!!

I probably won’t ever rent it again.
It was not only gross + filthy, it also was hard for me (as a woman) to push it around and it was really loud too.
I prefer to just pay out the extra $ to have the pros do it.

Getting brand new carpeting is my last resort and I am saving the money to do it since it will co$t over $1,200+.

I told ya'll the machines are gross. Thanks for confirming, op.

FYI - The cat urine has likely soaked into the carpet padding and possibly the underlying wood and/or your wood moldings. It may be very difficult to improve the smell unless you address this.

OP, serious question. How have you been living with dried piles of cat shit on your carpet? Your post imply it’s multiple piles as well.

I believed you. But especially because this poster had dried piles of crap that they repeatedly ran over with the bristles of this machine. It was like the were just cleaning stains with the bristles. They were scrubbing through chunks. 🤮

I know this doesn’t help the original posters problem, but I read a detailed review somewhere online recently that the Bissell green machine cleans much better than the rug doctor. And there are always coupons online if you go to their website for a few bucks off. I like the idea of finding a teenager you want to pay 50 bucks and have them help you.

I think after living w/two cats for 15-16 yrs or so, in a small condo…..
Sadly I have just become nose blind.

Yuck! I’d never rent one of those. Whenever I need my carpets cleaned I call a professional company. They have heavy duty machines and do a very good job. You can do a dry chemical clean, a shampoo, or a hit steam.

You have a bigger issue than the carpet. You are not old. You need to start working out!

It’s not because you’re a woman. It’s fine if it was too difficult for you to push around, but that’s not because you’re a woman.

Grip strength is a pretty good proxy for upper body strength, and the 90th percentile woman has about as much grip strength as a 10th percentile man.

https://www.reddit.com/r/dataisbeautiful/comments/4vcxd0/almost_all_men_are_stronger_than_almost_all_women/

Elite female athletes, in sports that specifically train grip strength, such as judo or handball, average at the 25th percentile of "normal" young males.

https://www.researchgate.net/publication/6614766_Hand-grip_strength_of_young_men_women_and_highly_trained_female_athletes

However, this is totally just a social construction and if you just believe in yourself, there's no difference whatsoever between male and female ability to push around heavy equipment.

You need to look carefully and find a clean one before you rent it. Most of the time you are so concerned with transporting it you forget that step. I think they do a good job actually. Signed I’m in my 60s too.

But OP your carpet needs replacing and maybe your cats rehomed.

You are so twisted you see your “enemies” everywhere. In no way did I imply women had the same strength distribution as men. I clearly meant that pushing the rug machine around should be well within the abilities of any 53 year old woman in good health.
