Rented a Rug Doctor To Deep Clean My Carpets And…..

We found that with the rental machine, we had to go over the same areas over and over so the result wasn't streaky. It was tough work, and we were two people in our thirties.

That could also be the difference between the carpets and how much time you were able to spend. I've done both on the same carpets, and if I have time I prefer to rent a machine. You can spend a lot more time and do better pre-treating of heavy traffic areas.

The world is a gross place. Do what you gotta doodoo.

Gross. Thanks for reminding me I never want to rent machines.

Given everything you stated, I'm shocked you didn't just hire a company to clean those two rooms. It wouldn't have cost that much more than your rental and would have worked so much better.

OP, put an ad on Craigslist or Nextdoor and pay a teen $20 an hour to help you finish.

OP Here:

Thx everyone for your responses!
Yes, I do admit the Rug Doctor itself is pretty gross when I think of all the things other people have used it to clean.
The visual does make me feel a tad 🤢.

It was actually kinda filthy the day I rented it - I had something get stuck inside temporarily & when I turned the machine over to pull it out…..

It was just GROSS.
I cannot wait to return this dang thing back to the store!!

I probably won’t ever rent it again.
It was not only gross + filthy, it also was hard for me (as a woman) to push it around and it was really loud too.
I prefer to just pay out the extra $ to have the pros do it.

Getting brand new carpeting is my last resort and I am saving the money to do it since it will co$t over $1,200+.

It’s not because you’re a woman. It’s fine if it was too difficult for you to push around, but that’s not because you’re a woman.

Pay someone else to do it...it's really not that expensive.

+ 1 OP, you need to start exercising and especially strength training. Using a carpet cleaner should not be this difficult. You’re only 53, you’re going to quickly lose your mobility if you don’t take care of yourself.

I get my wall to wall carpets professionally cleaned at least once per year. And send out area rugs (nice ones) every 18 months. If an animal has an accident on the rug we spot treat immidiately upon discovery and do so thoroughly.

Given OP’s situation I suggest returning the machine and hiring professionals. You can show them the areas that had feces and/or urine and they will pretreat (extra). And often the treatments come with a mini warranty of sorts if any stains pop back up.

Buy the little Green Machine carpet cleaner on Amazon. It’s perfect for pet accidents

Clearly you’ve never used one of these machines, huh? It basically runs the waste through the vacuum hose into a metal bucket. You aren’t going to get blood and feces all over your house for God’s sake!

Lady, in your situation, you need to suck it up and get new carpets.

(suck it up, LOL)

It would be the same gross machine even if OP hired someone.

That is disgusting, just hire a professional or get new carpets.

Yeah for real, do people think they clean those truck extractors more for some reason?

It’s all fine. It’s like using a washing machine at a laundromat. It’s fine.
