Fruit Based Diet?

Anonymous
I watched a few internet videos after reading this thread. You need to have at least 10% (I'd say more like 20%) of carbs, proteins and fats added to your diet. 80% fruit is sustainable, but 100% fruit will cause imbalances and gastro issues. Ashton Kutcher only made it a month before he was rushed to the hospital with appendicitis.

Most "fruitarians" eat fruit along with nuts and seeds to find some balance.

Sounds good to me. I wish I liked more fruit. It’s generally too sweet for me. I’m on a veggie-based diet, which is more to my taste.

There is a guy out there called the "fruitarian" who only eats fruit and he runs ultramarathons and stuff. I think he counts some vegetables as fruits too though, like tomatoes and cucumbers and stuff.

Make sure you monitor your blood sugar. I had gestational diabetes and so have increased risk for Type 2 and I would never do this kind of diet, but if you can monitor and make sure it's not spiking you should be fine. Also, this may just be a me problem but when I eat a lot of sugar I get yeast infections. YMMV

Correction. Pancreatitis, to prepare for his role as Steve Jobs. Steve Jobs of course had pancreas cancer, and also followed a fruit based diet. I'd say that's one hell of a coincidence. All fruit sounds very unhealthy.

Speaking at the premiere of Jobs at the Sundance film festival on Friday night, Kutcher revealed that he went to hospital with pancreas problems after following a strict diet of fruit, nuts and seeds. Jobs, who was often reported to be a fruitarian, died of pancreatic cancer in October last year.

"First of all, the fruitarian diet can lead to, like, severe issues," Kutcher told USA Today. "I went to the hospital like two days before we started shooting the movie. I was like doubled over in pain. My pancreas levels were completely out of whack. It was really terrifying … considering everything."

You can grab a baby carrot or a mini cuke just as easily...

Check out Caroline Deisler on Instagram. She’s a vegan but eats tons and tons of fruit. Her other meals involve a lot of nuts, seeds, avocados, rice, chocolate, leafy greens, etc to balance out her fruit intake.

I’d love to try eating this way if I could get my act together. (Pregnant, work is crazy, etc, etc.)

I was looking at this today and it seems like all the fruit I was talking about earlier in the thread doesn't equal the sugar in a coke or mountain dew or definitely not two of them. That makes me feel a lot better about it.

Best thing is that it's been easy to keep up, keeping me full and tastes great.

I eat a green smoothie every day. It’s a banana and some other frozen fruits but has spinach or kale for some leafy greens. I throw in peanut butter, protein powder, and oats too. This seems more well-rounded than simply eating a lot of fruit. I too run 5-8 miles daily. I eat vegetables with my meals too.

Those mini-cukes are so delicious! Wish they weren't wrapped in styrofoam & plastic.

It’s funny how divergent taste buds are. All I can detect in most fruit is the bitter notes (yes, local, in season fruit is sweet, but I don’t have access to that for long where I live) so I don’t eat a lot of fruit but for the opposite reason.

They're in season, find a farmers market near you, fresh of the farm pickling cukes are the best (and no styrofoam)
