| The thing that makes me have a teeny bit of sympathy for her is that she stayed on the boardwalk. It was the bison who came to her, essentially. She still should've known better, but I can imagine getting lulled into thinking you're safe if you stay on the designated path. |
| #teamBison Yeah as a human you should have the basic instinct to know that an animal that large is terrifying. I have video of Bison chasing people at Jackson Hole. |
+1. This was my thought, too. She didn't wander off. |
Just because someone is lucky with their stupidity, doesn't make them less foolish. I can't feel sympathy for this woman. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes. |
Do we really need rivers? |
What boardwalk? This is Yellowstone National Park. She had to get out of her car to even come close to that bison and all reports clearly state she walked up to it and was then attacked. https://apnews.com/article/animals-bison-d828194de56b7c72d632be0b95bd1dcb |

Park says stay 25 feet back. You see it coming you move back.
The incident began on Monday when a bison walked near a boardwalk at Black Sand Basin, about two miles northwest of Old Faithful, and the woman, described as 25 and from Ohio, approached it. She came within 10 feet of the animal, and two other people were within 25 yards of it, park officials said.

Articles state that the bison was near the boardwalk - I haven't seen anything about whether she stayed on the boardwalk or left it. Boardwalks are walking areas, not for cars. She was on foot, as were the other people nearby. |
No way. The signs all over the park are very clear that the animals have the right of way. The bison did not "come to her." She approached it. |
The other crazy thing about that is that they were near Old Faithful, which means there were a lot of people. I'll bet you $100 that people were yelling to her to not approach the bison. She did it anyway. |
oh, I am sure she came back just not the way anyone expected |
| When I was in middle school we lived on Ft Leavenworth (not the prison, obviously). There were bison on post in a huge fenced in area. We used to jump the fence and mess with the Bison all the time. I am so lucky. As a kid, I had no idea they were dangerous. I grew up around animals on my grandparents' (both sides) farms. I used to think Bison were like big cows. Maybe she didn't know they were dangerous? |
Doubt it. Like in the middle of DC or NYC, the national parks may be crowded but people don't interact like that. I've seen people interact inappropriately with bison before, unharmed, and also with no one shouting at them about it. |
It happened two miles away from Old Faithful. |
Just want to clarify because they changed between feet and yards in this article too. You're supposed to be 25 YARDS away. She came within 10 FEET |
