Do people really do that? That just sounds rude. Or is this normal?

Yes, people do that and yes, it's rude. I'm a POC and my husband is white. One of our kids looks white and I have been asked many times about his parentage and have had people try to poach me to nanny for them.

That said, I am skeptical of those DNA companies but I know lots of people who've done it. If you do decide to go for it, OP, test yourself and your spouse, not your kid.
