How do you split checks when you go out?

I have a restrictive diet and only drink water at restaurants. I ALWAYS ask for my bill separately. I can afford to split the bill and pay for others steak and lamb chops and $20 drinks, but I choose not to.

I recently went out and ordered a drink, an appetizer and an entree. I ordered the appetizer but everyone had a piece so we basically split the appetizer. When the bill came, I got charged for the appetizer. I don’t know why this bothered me so much.

How do you split checks when you go out? What do you prefer?

Last time I went out with a group of women the bill was just over $600 with tip and it ended up being $50 per person. I paid and they all venmo'd me the money. I'd say 90% of the time it is split evenly.
