Do winter swim kids dominate summer swim?

Winter swim costs a fortune compared to most other sports and it requires committed parents. We're fortunate that our kid who wants to swim winters can, but summer gets ridiculous when they're at the pool at 6:00 being coached by their summer coach as part of their club's summer program and then get another half assed practice at 8:00 with the summer team. If my kid is messing something up in a meet, their coach works with them at their club practice. The kids the coach coaches for club doing divisionals get a ton of work whereas the summer only kids get almost none.

Year round with a big reputable club (unless you are in MoCo and swim with RMSC) is no more expensive than any other high level year round club sport.

I meant that swimming with RMSC is less expensive than most other high level club sports if you are in MoCo.

Summer swim is cheap, club swim is not cheap - that is why the club swimmer gets more attention at club practices. You literally get what you pay for. That is not wrong.

Summer swim is cheap, club swim is not cheap - that is why the club swimmer gets more attention at club practices. You literally get what you pay for. That is not wrong.

Is your summer coach the same as your club coach, pp? that is unusual.

It also all depends on the numbers in the age group. My non-winter swimmer did great one year because the age group was super small. All A meets! The next year the kids that came up were a big group and back to B meets.

Still had fun! It's what you make of it

Some winter swimmers only swim September to May and then switch to summer teams. The higher groups swim all year round and should do their own meets.

Yes, and not everyone who swims year round is fast. Many do it for fitness and as their main activity. Lots of Motivational-B-Time swimmers in Winter.

There is nothing wrong with B meets! Many kids prefer them over A meets. Your kid is just trying to beat their one times. A good coach will make all kids feel included and valued for making progress during the season.

I am sorry you find this depressing. Kids who swim year round LOVE the ease and fun of summer swim, including the fast paced A meets. Those kids deserve those A meets. Club swim is not nearly as fun as summer swim, and many kids count the days down until summer swim starts and they start to shine for a few weeks each summer before returning to the grind in the fall.

I don’t get this- if your child wants to compete in A meets, then they need to put in the legwork year round. If they aren’t interested in doing that then B meets are sufficient. They are still meets, and they are still fun.

She wants her kid to get the glory by just asking those that are faster to get out of the pool. Why don't non of the travel LAX players and travel basketball players play in HS, so her kid can play then too.

we pay $105 per month for year round. That’s the same as my kids martial arts. Not really a fortune. Yes some charge more, but not all.

for 4 day a week with a reputable club? We were paying more than twice that for twice a week stroke school

2-3 times a week yes. My kid is in the 9-10 age group.

This. My kid has been busting it all year and is pumped that at the older end of the age group this summer she is going to get to do all the A meets in multiple strokes and get to swim in Divisionals and All-Stars. I know summer swim is fun and low key, which the club kids love too, but it is not a bad thing that the kids that are dedicated to the sport get to reap the rewards. And honestly, if the club kids did their own meets, wouldn’t they just be called the A meets?

My kids swim year round. They don’t necessarily make a meets and have never made divisionals. Would you kick them off summer swim bc they swim year round? Where do you want to draw your imaginary line?

Not necessarily dominate, but they are the top swimmers. A few kids in our neighborhood who swim only in the summer are usually close behind. Its funny because some swim team families don't realize their year round swimmer is competing with just summer swim kids. They act like their kid is special, but really, the year round swim kids should be better than the summer only swimmers. Drove me crazy.

This is very hard to believe- parents of club swimmers know other kids aren’t swimming year round. They can usually tell from how the kid swims or by talking to the parent.
