That "one sitting" is critical information.

CAse Definately gives decent merit. My DC got $33k/year, 1490, 3.99 UW gpa, 8 AP, focused EC(15-25 hours/week of outside school sport), volunteering, etc. however DC did not do an interview—only did an online/virtual tour. So I suspect as a female in engineering if she’d shown more interest she might have gotten more $$$.

DC visited top 2 schools in April and picked the other.

My DD got accepted last year with $20K merit - nursing major. 4.0, 29 ACT, several ECs (no travel sports but founded two clubs at school).

DD got $33K/year applying RD. We think she would have received more in EA. 1600 SAT, rank = 1 or 2 in class of 400, has a less than perfect GPA but amazing EC and essay that showed off her character in the best possible light.

Case negotiated merit aid for me when I asked. But I didn't go there because Cleveland sucks.

DS got 40.5K/year, applying EA. Did not do the interview, but did a tour before applying.

Previous poster with the 40K DS mentioned above. Did not apply separately, was automatic.

Is this an ED or RD kid?

Do you mind sharing stats and major?

CS major, 35 ACT, 3.7 UW GPA. He also got $30,000 a year at Northeastern but ultimately chose state flagship.

Congratulations. Could I ask, did he have a "hook"?

No. Fairly normal EC like Eagle Scout, Varsity 3 season sports, state orchestra, hackathons. And started a successful business.

This is what we’ve come to, where these ECs are considered fairly normal.

Yep. At first, I thought it was novel to see school kids starting nonprofits and publishing books. Then, I realized it was for college acceptance purposes. I wonder how many nonprofits and such have been abandoned once the college acceptance came?

I think back to being a kid, and I did things because I loved them.

It’s sad, really. I notice how calculating lots of teens are rather than just exploring this time being young and curious.
