I would be ashamed to purchase a mined diamond. The poster who claims they can tell the difference appears to be extrapolating from their perception of their own jewelry but honestly even if you could tell the difference I wouldn’t want to be respected by people who think lan grown diamonds are “fake” which they aren’t but definition since they’re identical to mined ones chemically. Do you also calll farmed pearls fake? |
PP. From what I recall, moissanite has double refraction instead of single refraction like a mined diamond (google it. To be fair, I’m not sure this is super obvious in person.) Ms also have more rainbow sparkles than just white sparkles, which is another tell apparently. I’m in the market for some M earrings myself, so I’ve started some research to refresh my memory. These personally are not dealbreakers for me. I don’t have a dog in this fight, as I pretty much love any stone that sparkles. I was just trying to let OP know that is she went with M, these have been common observations. And again, if she doesn’t care if people know she has a lab stone, then it really doesn’t matter. |
I don't think this is possible... |
Lab created is so fake, get a different stone if you are trying to save money |
You clearly have no idea how lab diamonds are made. Lab diamonds aren't fake diamonds. It is the same process that happens in nature, just in a controlled environment. For all the technology it is a pretty slow process. The lab diamond process isn't cheap. It is simply a supply and demand issue. The supply of natural diamonds is pretty thin. |
Lab diamonds are real diamonds. |
Fun fact: The Carnegie building by Broad Branch Road NW nd Linnean Ave NW is more than a sledding destination. They are pioneers in synthetic diamonds.

Stop with the "fake". A lab diamond is a real diamond. The distinction here is lab diamond vs. mined diamond. Not real vs. fake. Ultimately, you're just trying to justify wasting so much money on a clear stone. |
I think that a lot of the people talking about "fake diamonds" just flat out don't know what a lab diamond is. A CZ is not a lab diamond. A moissanite is not a lab diamond. A lab diamond is a real diamond and no, you absolutely cannot tell the difference with a naked eye. That grandma PP doesn't know what she's talking about. |
Like wild pearls versus cultured pearls. |
+1 Lab diamonds are diamonds. They have the same molecular composition as mined diamonds, but not the same moral issues attached. |
My understanding is that there are two different processes used to grow lab diamonds and one way (don’t remember which) is pretty hard environmentally. They both use “seeds” to start and I feel like one way might show the seed more. But yes, a lab diamond isn’t a simulant. |
I was coming here to say similar. A moissanite is a different type of stone. |
What part of "you can't tell a lab diamond from a mined diamond without equipment" do you not understand? You also can't comprehend that lab diamonds are not moissanite. |
Lab created diamonds are not fake. They are exactly like mined diamonds. The people saying you can see a difference between lab created and mined diamonds are lying. These posts are just incredibly stupid. There are clearly people on this thread with agendas. Also don't get confused with moissanite. It is an entirely different stone and is not the same as a lab created diamond. Moissanite is not a diamond. |
