Correct. Homecoming and winter formal were the micro short dresses.
Prom = everyone was in long dresses.

My daughter goes to a DC private.
Have your daughter ask around before purchasing the dress!

Correct!

Every photo I have seen on IG or FB of friends' kids, the girls are in long dresses for prom, whether it's in DC, NoVA, other parts of Virginia.

If invited Juniors do not wear long dresses, only seniors. Public high school

My DD's first ever thong was for the prom. It actually made me tear up a bit! She looked so great in it!

WTF

+1 Gross.

I’m the PP you are quoting. I knew girls wear short dresses to junior prom but had no idea that juniors attending senior prom also should only wear short dresses. So many rules!

Apparently because she's going with a senior she can wear either. Who knew about these rules?!? I think we will start with Macy's and go from there. We can check out online too, but I'm excited about shopping in person for such a special dress and also she's very tall and very thin so fit can be a problem.

My daughter is a junior and wearing a long dress. She said that is a stupid rule made up by seniors, although it seems to be the practice at a lot of schools. Her friends are wearing long, too, so at least she won’t be alone.

My 10th grader has her own strong opinion about what she wants to wear. Your daughter should pick what she likes and feels good in. Some girls wear dressy pants outfits. Some wear long dresses, some short, some pouch, some form-fitting.

A few years back, my DD wore a cocktail dress to her prom. She was lovely and she was able to wear it again later, where a traditional prom gown would probably never be worn again.

I don’t think the seniors-long/juniors-short code was a thing at her MCPS public school. When I asked her about long prom gowns, it was made abundantly clear that I am hopelessly out of date. Although that reaction paled in comparison to the time she was going to homecoming and I asked if she wanted a mum. Apparently that’s only a thing where I grew up.

Are you from Texas? Mums were a big deal growing up in San Antonio

My niece wore a very short dress to prom. I was surprised her conservative parents allowed it TBH. Around us they seem to be primarily in long gowns.
