How are sports tryouts conducted at your school? Is it transparent or it is it political?

As many above have stated this happens all over the county. I am not sure what the problem. If you show initiative to go to the camp they will allow you regardless of payment. Scholarships are always available. If you want something bad enough going to camp to get a preview of what it could be like does not seem like a huge ask. But hey apparently everyone should get a trophy too.
