This.

Tons of stuff to do for serious majors at serious colleges.

You can drink and party, skip class, and fool around then say this is the best time of my life if you major in some useless stuff especially at some mediocre schools.

I know plenty of college aged kids whose summer jobs are the same sorts of things I did - camp counselor, wait staff/restaurant hostess, retail, etc. Also the ones who tout their internships often seem to be remote, cush ones (or stay at college to “do research” for a professor which usually sounds like a calm and fun summer with other students around). Of course there are students doing serious work, too, but plenty have “regular” temporary jobs.

Yes, I was talking about top performing kids.

Burn out is real, Mom.

I would be so interested in real life to meet the posters on this forum who seem to have no issue regularly insulting kids.

No for me right now is the best time.

100% tele work. I wake up when I wake up.
The work is pretty easy with well over 6 figure salay with ton of benefits.

I can't believe this is happening.
In fact I thank Covid.

Me too! Except for the 5-6 years when I had 3 small kids at home.

Between ages 15-25 are The Best Years of Your Life!!!
College would be the best of these best years! You are surrounded by peers and have plenty of free time to socialize!
Enjoy it!

I loved my college years, and have such fond memories of them. But better than right now, with my three amazing elementary school kids, and my terrific husband? Nah. Staying in the present is the way to go, hard as that is sometimes. It's really all we have.

For rich kids being subsidized by their parents to party and bring guaranteed cushy summer internships, seems like it could be fun.

Well then let those people enjoy their memories.

I don’t think sharing our memories impedes on others from enjoying their memories. Or does it make you uncomfortable to realize that some people have to struggle to get a college degree? That there are those for whom what feels like a “normal” college experience is actual quite abnormal?

First five years post-undergrad were my best years.

For me it was. I was an chemical engineering major and still had the absolute best time. Met some of my closest and dearest friends. I also pledged a sorority. I LOVED college and hope my kids do too. It could also be that I hated HS so much so it was in comparison to that. I was a loner with no close friends. In college I found my people.

I loved it so I would agree it was the best time of my life. Have two in college now and one would definitely agree. He has loved everything about it from his classes to his friends and has really grown tremendously. The other one has had alot of stress and harder classes, more difficult social situations etc but she still loves it.

College definitely wasn't the best. It would have been, if I were healthier emotionally at the time, but my childhood was messed up. Life has gotten better and better since childhood. Until recently. I am being squeezed too hard by the sandwich of having needy aging parents and teenagers.
