beauty is in the eye of the beholder. you just rattled off some strong high school choices for many families, especially catholic families.

+1. Great dc high schools!

HTS is a great school. Most who attend HTS go to catholic high schools because they want to--it's their first choice. Those who want a different independent school, HTS kids are competitive and have a good chance of getting into those schools, e.g. STA, Holton, etc. Most though do want Gonzaga, Prep, Stone Ridge, Visitation, etc. We are an HTS family and are leaning toward Visi-very impressed by the culture and academics, hard pass for NCS, will also consider SR and Holton.

Anyone that uses the term "hard pass" sounds very uneducated to me. Why would you single out one school? Sound bitter to me.

Hmm nothing uneducated about hard pass, commonly used phrase. Not singling out NCS-it's a great school for many but for our daughter (which was of course the context in which NCS was referenced) it is absolutely not on our list for a variety of reasons. Way to assume the worst though, seems like you are projecting--perhaps you have a chip on your shoulder, you are awfully quick to defend NCS when there was no attack. And since we are clearly looking at all single sex schools, makes perfect sense to throw NCS in there too. Back to HTS--whether one wants NCS or a Catholic independent, your daughter will be well prepared academically and has just as much of a chance of getting into great caliber school as others if not a bit more.

lol. It was a perfectly fine response until you then went on to attack her.

Current HTS parent here. The school has done a great job preparing the students for HSPT and for applying to high school in general. Principal and staff met with all parents at the end of the school year to discuss pros and cons of their children’s possible high school choices. The advice provided was realistic and very helpful, we could def tell that they know each and every student’s strengths and weaknesses.

Is it JUST because of location, or does HTS provide some additional value that the other parochial catholic schools do not (e.g. Outplacement to independents, etc.)

If you mean outplacement to independent Catholic high schools, HT has no special advantage. If you mean non-Catholic independents that rarely happens.

Cost of HTS is similar to other DC Catholic schools, maybe it’s $2K more than the parish schools but it has excellent facilities, lots of after school activities, and it offers a competitive salary (their goal is to match the salary of MoCo teachers). It’s worth every penny

Some of that is because their costs are higher. Some of it is because that's what the market will bear. If the school brings in more money than it costs, the surplus goes into the church coffers.

That’s not actually how parish school finances work.

+1 I don't understand why OP thinks kids from Catholic parochial schools would apply to non Catholic private high schools. It happens, sure, but it is rare, and even then it is often not the first choice.

bc Catholics are actually normal people. the thinly veiled Catholic hate on this forum is something I have never seen before. I am not even practicing but wow. Catholics are not some crazy fundamentalist super cult obssessed w religion. There was a whole schism those who got upset they could not reform the chirch to be such broke away. The nuttiest of the bunch came to america. Good work ethic tho.

HTS does seem to cost double what the other parish schools cost. Not sure where this person is coming up with 2k more. Compared to what?

The hate comes from the fact MAGA has grown and flourished in Catholic schools

The hate also comes from Catholic Church supporters who fund lawsuits against survivors of childhood abuse by priests
