What are you going to do when kids have birthday parties, the school sends mail, you talk to the parents about where you live or the kids talk about their houses, there's a class list, or it's walk to school day and your kid can't do it?

It's perfectly legal to move out of bounds after enrolling for the first time. You can remain at that school throughout the terminal grade.

You can remain at that school throughout the terminal grade at the principal's discretion is my understanding

That was changed a few years ago to be a right to continue at the school through the terminal grade. It’s no longer principal discretion.

You have to provide proof of residency when you enroll -- ID with the in bounds address plus utility bills (two months). The front office takes it pretty seriously and have reached back out with requests for more info. One year I only provided one month, the next they wanted proof the bills were paid. If you really want to the spot, extend your lease. I personally wouldn't want to drive out of my neighborhood for Pre-K.

Until you move, use your current address. Verify using the address current on your documentation (drivers license and registration).

Keep it simple. Keep quiet. Use the year to figure out next steps.
