That's just a fluke. And those who win gold don't need ivies. |
But they might enjoy them. They also might genuinely need to be in environments where they are surrounded and encouraged by a multi-talented peer group that can appreciate them for more than just the gold medals. Not that Ivies are the only place to get that, of course. |
This is a laughably ridiculous comment. There are Asian-American kids on most sports teams at top academic colleges who are nowhere near talented enough to compete for the Olympics, as is the case for 99% of their non Asian American teammates. All those schools have significant percentages of Asian American students with no demonstrated athletic ability as well. |

I thought Asian-Americans were not athletic? Huh???
Must have Tiger Parents then??? |
Must be so hard for colleges to keep denying Asian-Americans admissions, no? |
At Pomona tour, we saw a freeze bee team on campus. Most kids at the most selective schools are nerds. |
DCUM racists are coming out. |
Not sure what you mean. I’m not aware of any colleges that deny admission to Asian-Americans. My point is that you can be recruited as a great, but not phenomenal, Asian-American athlete with stats that meet whatever threshold the school sets. The PP seemed to be suggesting that if you are Asian-American, you have to have Olympic level skills, which is ludicrous. |
PP needs to return to that thread on PP’s kids heading to the trade school. We all need waiters/waitresses, trash collectors, bus drivers, housekeepers... |

CU Boulder representing at the Olympics!

Pure racism. It's like saying if a kid turns out to be an Olympic-level sexual predator, he must've had Jewish parents. |
Asians have a tougher time getting into Ivies. Newsweek reported on it. In another thread, someone said I was dumb to “think” this and my friend who told me about it was also dumb. NP |
