It is easier and even faster to drive or train to some areas that are 3-4 hours away than fly (e.g. flying in/out of NYC to get to local NYC area suburbs is a pain and not much time savings).

Also, you are rich if you fly anywhere with kids that's over two hours away. Just don't comment if that's you, you're not helpful.

Under 4 hours is a long range. For 1 hour, yes but I am pretty sure your kids don't stare out the window for 3 hours

My 6 year old refuses to look at a screen because she knows she gets car sick. She listens to audiobooks and zones out for the 7-9 hour drive to my parents'. I bring games and little figurines, but I think anything other than looking straight ahead upsets her stomach, so she prefers to just hang out and listen to something or talk to us.

Same. Family in Pittsburgh and in Charlotte. We can making the trips for seven years and never used a tablet. We love audiobooks and good music though!

We own a portable DVD player. We prop it up in the middle arm console so all 3 kids can see.

We check out dvds from the library. I charge the DVD player every chance I get but we can make it through 2 movies usually before I need to charge it.
