dog coughing/honking

Anonymous
OP here. After reading a ton and watching videos of various dog coughs (and considering she is still acting totally normal otherwise), I am starting to suspect it’s a trachea issue. This morning, I dug up an old email address for a vet friend and sent a video of a honking spell and he got her an appointment with a center for tomorrow.

Good luck! I hope it ends up being something very minor!

+1 Good job, OP!

I have a pug and her honking cough is a collapsing trachea. I had surgery for her brachycephalic airways to help relieve pressure from her trachea overworking. That won't apply to your dog, but I would absolutely at least call/email the vet about this because a collapsing trachea is serious and needs to be treated. Telltale sign is a honking cough.

A very good idea, OP. Hoping your doggie is ok!

My dog dyes this. She is a small breed and it’s a collapsing trachea.

OP here. Her honking suddenly resolved on its own last night, as typically happens before an urgent vet appt. But he took a look at her and said that her trachea may have just been irritated, but treat her as if she is prone to tracheal collapse to be safe and only use harnesses, etc to avoid any pressure on it. So we will proceed as normal with caution.
