I nursed both my kids until they were almost 3.5 years. Finally weaning was not actually that difficult with either of them.
Neither had any cavities FWIW. |
totally normal! Not pp. |
Normal where? Anyway I would want my body back but to each their own. |
I’d say normal but not common. I’m glad my family and friends didn’t offer unsolicited opinions re breastfeeding. My kids both nursed until a little under 2yrs old and they were ready to stop. |
| My 3 year old still nurses and doesn’t want to quit. I tried to wean her at the start of Covid, and the pediatrician said absolutely not, continue nursing because it provides nutrients and antibodies to your 16 month old. Well…2 years later here we are. I can only say good luck! |
| My son is almost 20 months old and still nurses three times a day. Sometimes he nurses more on the weekends because he likes to nurse for comfort. I don't really have any hard and fast rules about when we're going to quit but with his older sister I weaned her around 22 months so we'll see |
| Totally normal and fine |
| I was following a similar routine at that age. I think my DS was fully weaned at 17 months because we had a lot of changes (new daycare, going to one nap, etc) |

OP, I am going to give you some good advice here-from a mom who nursed 6 babies who all self weaned at different times.
DON'T DISCUSS IT WITH YOUR INLAWS Yes, yelling. It's none of their business and clearly they are not supportive. |
DP who has also nursed a child to 4. It’s not like nursing an infant. You are barely even making any milk, and most likely you are only nursing a few minutes once a day. When my daughter was “nursing” at that age, it was once in the morning and I set a timer for 1 minute! I’m sure you hold, hug, pick up your 4 yo for way more time than that - does that mean you “don’t have your body back”? |
I am a huge breastfeeding advocate but suckling at four-years-old is infantilizing and by no means “normal” or healthy for development. |
Why? |
That makes no sense. Kids with dairy allergies survive just fine and you lost ALL credibility when you stated breast milk turns to SKIM MILK (WTF!??!) past 12 months. Skim milk is literally cows milk with the fat removed. The cow makes milk with milkfat, we remove it for dumb reasons, There is no machine or person removing the milkfat from a nursing mother after 11 months and 29 days past delivery. Breastmilk may actually increase in fat content as nursing continues. |
PP just told you why. Suckling is a way babies self-soothe. A prekindergartener should know how to self-soothe without suckling. Mammals wean as part of a self-reliance mechanism to gain autonomy. It’s important that our toddlers get there not to mention pre-k kids! |
I mean, the AAP specifically says the opposite of what you’re saying, did they forget to seek your expert advice before publishing their opinion? Were you out sick that day? In another meeting? |
