OP here. Any updates on waitlist movement? Thanks. |
| I attended both sessions of the registration orientation and frankly it appeared to me that several famlies must not have shown up, which I suspect means the waitlist should move some. For Pre-K alone there should be two classes of 22, for a total of 44 kids. There are 18 kids in their PS (age 3) class who automatically get a spot in Pre-K, which means that 24 kids got a lottery spot. So, unless a bunch of families asked to be excused from the "mandatory registration orientation" I don't think that all 24 Pre-K famlies were at the orientation. And keep in mind the orientation was for all grades, I think, not just Pre-K. All that to say, I'm pretty sure there will be some movement on the waitlist, unless the administration was lenient about families who were unable to attend the orientation, because the numbers were just not there. So call them! Good luck. |
Thanks PP. I called and there hasn't been any movement for K. I guess the parents absent from the orientation sessions probably have kids in other grades. Still keeping my fingers crossed. |
| We just turned down a pre-K seat for our daughter, so there's one for whoever's next on the list.... |
Thanks, PP. Did you guys get another option? Congrats. We're still hoping for Two Rivers, but at the same time having a hard time accepting the location (very busy Florida Ave). |
OP here. Thanks PP. Let's hope someone in K changes her mind so that there'll be some movement. |

We did already accept an offer for a seat in an independent school (love the school/hate the commute and cost), and we'll lose some money if we back out before June, but it's an amount we can live with if need be. We're still crossing our fingers for waitlist movement at our first choice DCPS where we have a relatively low number. Regarding Two Rivers, we ultimately decided to rely on our initial reaction/assessment rather than second guess ourselves -- it's lovely in many ways but we continue to have nagging concerns about the location, outdoor space, and library. Thanks! |

Thanks! PP, I heard that some DCPS schools' waitlists are starting to move. Not sure which school you are hoping for but checked with Hearst recently and they were already up to #15 on the waitlist. That's hopeful. |
That was me!! Thanks so much! We're still concerned about the commute and are looking at our options right now (so there may be one more spot later if we just can't make it work) but for now, we're thrilled getting a spot in a great school for our DS! |

| OP here again. Any movement in K? Thanks. |
| Can't speak to waitlist movement but I can offer that last week we received a packet of info from the school with our son's class list/teacher's name/supplies list, etc., so I would expect movement in the next couple of weeks as parents decide to attend or not to. If you hope to get in, keep calling. |
