Daycare Closed Due to Omicron (BCDC)

See the thing is...no one else is in the pandemic until they are sick except 0-5. It wont matter how strict we are here, it wont matter because there are adults and children across the US not wearing masks, not getting vaccinated, not getting boostered, etc. Kids age 5-11 as of 12-5-2021 are 15% with one shot.

Your daycare is following the science and providing a choice for parents and their kids. If you dont feel that is enough protection you can quarantine your child longer.

In case you haven’t been following the news, daycares are facing a severe staffing shortage. It’s not so simple to have a contingency plan in place because they can’t find staff. There are risks associated with choosing daycare during a summer pandemic. You can always get a nanny, but then if your nanny gets Covid, you’ll be out of care as well.

Typo - didn’t mean to say summer pandemic.

You can always pull your own child out for every exposure, and figure out what that means for your job/finances since you have no leave yet. We pulled our kids out during the peak of the delta wave and avoided one exposure. But, this year, now that we are vaccinated, it does not seem worth it. My child's risk is lower than my own (vaccinated & boosted) risk.

With original COVID in spring 2020, I was 100% with you in trying to stop COVID spread, to flatten the curve, to give us time to get vaccines and treatments. But eradicating COVID is not going to happen at this point, and Omicron is beyond contagious. If you are very concerned, you may want to pull from daycare until vaccines arrive for <5 set.

Then don’t send your kid to daycare! Holy crap people - don’t let you paranoia about this virus impact other families who may have no choice. Both my partner and I are essential workers. I can’t work from home. I have to physically be at my job. I am so sick of hearing families complain about keeping classes open or not closing during this wave. No one is stopping you from keeping your own child at home. I’ve had parents at my daycare advocates to NOT implement test and stay because they don’t think it’s safe. Those people should not be impacting the ability of other kids to continue to get care.

That isn't because the daycares or the employees are at fault, though they might have been. It's not because of other parents, although that's a factor too. It's the nature of this illness. It's contagious. It spreads. Even in the best of times, kids are germ factories. Put a bunch of them together and they get sick, they pass along illness, etc.

I hope none of you have to see what mis-c does to a five-year-old's heart like my friend in New York. I wish more of you were concerned.

I suspect a lot of you, like the woman who keeps advocating for daycares to drop mask requirements, are used to living in a world that you control. Parenting will never completely be that world. Neither will a global pandemic. You're going to have to let go of that and acknowledge that everyone is struggling to keep their family safe and their children developing. Sometimes there are no good choices, there is only doing the least harm to the most people. Please try and keep that in mind.

This is complete BS

Our daycare provider had a contact exposure x3 so, yep we are closed until she can get a test result (maybe Thursday)

Bcdc closed again today because of icy conditions. One of these days they’ll decide to open back up right?

BCDC closes if there is a stiff wind. They are opening an hour late tomorrow too.

Our daycare - St Albans - was closed on the 4th too. No big deal, the streets were a mess and lots of care providers use public transportation.

They are running a modified schedule this week, with a later start time (90 minutes late open) and a later pick (60 minutes after our normal time) because of transportation issues in the morning.

Have some patience and grace!

Stop with the scare tactics! Your language assumes it’s all five year olds. That is a very rare occurrence. Wow! ALMOST ALL five year olds hardly get a symptom and could run a marathon. I do believe we should mask up and children should be vaccinated but stop with the fear mongering and stick to the facts.

Masking is optional in Northern Virginia. What they're asking for is nothing radical.

More uneducated fear mongering. Try this. Do some real research and give us the number of 5 year olds that get COVID that develop lung damage. I am not talking about acute bronchitis or asthma. I mean real damage and out a link here for us all to see. I am going to prognosticate and say that you will not do that because that link does not exist. What you will likely do and respond in a negative way and make false representations.
Little Johnny's parents don't care if he gets permanent lung damage because they live in Virginia. It's not radical if everyone else is jumping off a cliff too. Why don't you sign my petition? People are saying it's a good idea!!

Melanie, I suspect, lives in Virginia. Wonder if she's connected to the disrupt the Loudon schools crowd?
