DD8 cleans her own bathroom once weekly and I check behind her work. It helps her to keep it clean during the week because she’s more invested in its upkeep. At 13 she should be doing laundry.

My 9yo and 13 yo alternate cleaning their bathroom. Both do an equally good job. If heard either referring to chores as child abuse, privileges would be lost very fast.

The OP didn’t clarify if there’re siblings changing the context. “Child abuse”(metaphorically) might be related to special treatment.
