And no, my DC does not go to FH. DC goes to a Catholic HS.

From what I understand they have one of the best in the world. It is one of the reasons we are considering it.

Based on what? I know they beat Harvard in some competition about 5 years ago, but is there any other reason some people are saying they are best around?

They finished top 5 two years in a row among a bunch of universities. Again, I’m no FHS apologist. Didn’t even apply there for DC, but it does have a good reputation for robotics.

PP here. As recently as 2019, so its not some random event from 5 years ago.

Sidwell's FTC team had multiple qualifies for the regionals two years ago when COVID hit and their team this year had a very successful showing in the qualifying last weekend.

Their MATE underwater entry qualified for the nationals and finished in the top 10 or 15 in the country, again pre-COVID.

In attending competitions, we have observed that the schools all have different approaches towards robotics competitions and programs in general. If this is a super high priority for your kid, then you should try to attend competitions and talk to kids and advisors to the programs to see what might be the best fit.

Not only is the unmanned aerial robotics team at FH superb, but my sons robotics club placed first in this past weekends FTC challenge and they have qualified for states. I encourage the OP to visit.
