Kids begging for a dog

I agree. Our dog is crazy but lovable and I have lost 20 pounds walking him. Maybe consider adopting a full grown dog as the puppy time is not my favorite. I fell in love with our dog after six months when I could sleep again. You could also sign up to foster and maybe wind up adopting. If you want a puppy and a purebred then go for easy and trainable breed like a golden.

From your post: We have said maybe for years now and never pulled trigger. Is this really bad or mean?

Yes, that was mean. You should have just said no from the very beginning. You left the door open when you never planned to follow through.

This is an excellent idea. You can see whether your family is cut out to have a dog. You are under no obligation to keep that particular one, and you can ask the rescue organization for an “easy” dog for an inexperienced family.

Seriously - we are experienced owners looking for a new dog!

I hemmed and hawed for almost a year after we visited my aunt and uncle and my kids so thoroughly enjoyed playing with their golden retriever.
I ended up having a dog offered to me. We went for it. Best decision ever. He brings so much happiness into the house it is totally worth it.
He was 11 months when we got him and he went through a little adjustment period where he chewed up a couple of things and had a few accidents, but nothing too bad. He’s perfectly adjusted now. I’m so glad we have him. He’s a small mixed breed who could go 20 years and I hope he does. He doesn’t require much maintenance, just pets and love, food, water, and he sleeps on my son’s bed.
