Your Thanksgiving Mistake

Scheduled lunch at 1, everyone showed up after 1:30-2. Ugh!!

Did you ask what time people wanted to eat? That might have been their small mutiny.

Today was fine, but the turkey and stuffing I made for Friendsgiving last weekend was bad.

Today we had prime rib that DH started on the pellet smoker, salt baked potatoes and asparagus, with crab and lobster claws for appetizers. Nobody likes traditional thanksgiving food at my house. My hair stylist offered to save me a plate for tomorrow though.

Send DH to Wegman’s.

Gasp! Perish the thought. I’m going to do it, and then I’m going to have a whiskey and a bath.

I quite like their baked goods.

I’m sure they’re good but I can’t bring a store bought pie to Thanksgiving, I have a REPUTATION to uphold.

I underestimated the superior heat conduction of a tin pie plate. I hate soggy pumpkin pie crust- well definitely wasn’t soggy! It was borderline too crisp, if that is possible. Next time I’ll decrease the oven temp a little. Still great though and it got eaten up with nothing left

None so far. No guests. Minimal cleaning. Alternate menu is cooking as expected.

Good luck to everyone else!

Same. Alternative menu was just what we all wanted.
I didn’t have grapes for our cheese plate but that was still fine. We eat grapes the rest of the year.

Did they have small kids? Because 1 p.m. is smack-dab nap time, and I would have driven around until my kid had at least a bit of a car nap, meaning yeah, I would have arrived at 2.

A reputation of being a stressball procrastinator who drinks whiskey to cope with something that’s as…easy as pie? -NP

Forgot to bring out the homemade cranberry relish.

Ugh. Not one of my better Thanksgiving meals. Turkey slightly underdone and had to be finished in microwave. Too much allspice in cranberry sauce. And to cap it off I managed to burn the meringue I made to top the pumpkin pie.

Still waiting to bake my sea-salt and herb skillet rolls, so those could be a disaster as well, since I’ve never made them before.

Recipe please if the skillet rolls come out well!

Yes those sound amazing!

Forgot late pregnancy = heartburn and I’m now regretting eating as much as I did for dinner. 😝

Happy thanksgiving, all! I’m sure your fails and workarounds were greatly appreciated by others!

No real mistakes - some things were great and a few things were a little less amazing but also tasted good but my mistake was that I way overdid it for 12 people and as the only cook and organizer I’m seriously exhausted. I need to simplify next year I’m some way.
