A PASS does not mean the kid failed. It means the kid got a something between a C+ and a D. An F would be marked as an I until January and the kid could make up work. Your kid’s friend literally couldn’t fail last year. |
| What kind of kid “fits” in a large chaotic school with no homework? Genuine question. I think it would be terrible for any kid. |
You should know that the Wilson described in these pages exists only on DCUM. If you want to actually know anything about the school, I’d urge you to visit. |
My daughter has plenty of homework. She’s the kind of kid who is pretty easygoing, social and studious. Wilson has been a good fit for her and her many friends. There is something and someone for everyone. I’d say it’s probably harder to find your place and your people at a much smaller school. |
You have no idea what you’re talking about. Participation is only 10% of the grade. Assessments are 40% of the grade, and all assessments are weighted equally. My kid just got an A- in a class because he got 75s on a couple of pop quizzes (while getting a 98 on the midterm). Please stop with this silliness. |
This is not a genuine question. Multiple people have said this is not what their kids are experiencing. |
Same. There are some classes where you just have to do the bare minimum to get an A - but not SciMaTech class, math, science or even some of the tougher English/History. And Ceramics? Forget - that is a hard won A if you get it. I am not joking. |
Yes, and the underwater basket-weaving course is a killer. |
Please get some new material. “Underwater basket weaving” as signifier of “classes that I, a very serious person, think aren’t serious” stopped being funny 30 years ago (if it ever was). |
I wasn’t joking. |
This is just not true. It is so much easier to get an A now with the new grading scale. But if it makes you feel like your child is really excelling, please continue to believe so. And PP there is no DCPS rule that all assessments are weighted equally. That is at your school or an individual teacher’s decision. |
I don’t know if it’s easier to get an A now than it was before, but the original contention was that students do nothing and get an A- or fail all tests and get an A-. That’s not true. Also, the new grading scale is used DCPS-wide, so to the extent that people think it’s too easy to get As, that’s not a Wilson problem. |
