Good gravy is delightful. Bad gravy, not made fresh with the drippings, is gross. |
| People who bring cake for dessert. WTH? This is PIE DAY people. PIES. |

I know this may irritate some, but soda and beer do not belong at the thanksgiving dinner table.
Water- still or sparkling, in a glass, or wine. Cocktails before dinner, coffee with dessert. Beer is fine in the other room while watching the football game. But at dinner, I’d prefer not to see your Busch Light can on the table. I won’t say anything of course, but it silently bothers me. |
We always have one rum cake, decorated like a turkey. New name every year. |
I agree, unless you are a kid, and then you get your gingerale in a wine glass. And for the love of god, beer goes into a glass on thanksgiving, at the very least. |
Actually I like that idea? Does anyone ever eat it? |

Must:
Turkey Mashed potatoes Gravy Stuffing (no fruit, sausage or oysters included) Corn (just regular kernel corn) Mac & cheese Rolls Dessert of some kind, usually chocolate pie in our house as cooked fruit is not good. Nope: Corn casserole/creamed corn - Regular corn is so much better than any casserole or creamed corn dish I've ever had. Sweet potatoes - No one in our house likes them Cranberry sauce - No one in our house likes this either Creamed onions is something I've never had before. Similarly don't have much experience with sausage in stuffing. Are those southern things, maybe? |
Most pies are gross, so it's good to have some variety for dessert. |
The hell? No way! |
Ha, yes, I mean, you absolutely need apply pie AND pumpkin pie AND pecan pie. More pie is fine, too, but those three are must haves in our house no matter how few people. |
|
Does belong:
Turkey Sausage stuffing Mashed potatoes Gravy Homemade cranberry sauce Green beans in some form Wine Pumpkin pie Does not belong: Seafood Things that masquerade as mashed potatoes but are not Beets -- I don't like food that bleeds |
|
Mac and cheese.
That's for cookouts or weeknights. |
| You know what doesn't belong at Thanksgiving? Guests of guests. No, you don't get to bring your cousins along. |
|
Turkey
Gravy Stuffing Sweet potatoes Cranberry sauce (prepared from the bag o’ cranberries and used mainly for leftover Turkey sandwiches) Mashed potatoes Corn casserole on the back of the Jiffy box One fresh green thing - I like steamed green beans Nope I don’t have any nopes. If it’s your tradition, I’m down. |
What about beer in a glass? My dad doesn't like wine! |
