| I thought the whole cast was bland and underdeveloped, except for Druig and Dane. The deaf actress was good too, but had virtually nothing to do (did anyone even say her character's name in the film? have no idea what it is). The story wasn't great, but I think the cast was the bigger problem. |
Too many characters. It's one thing in Avengers End Game when the characters are already well established, terrible when the cast is just being introduced for the first time. It meant the majority of characters ended up paper thin. |
+1 to all of this. My DH is a Marvel fan and excited to see this; I'm not a comics fan but it looks pretty. But I will wait for it to be available on my home TV. |
Shame because the best part of the movie is the glorious settings, which won't translate as well to home screens. |
Shrug. I'm not a particularly visual person and I don't like dealing with the public, plus if I have to get a babysitter then I'd rather do something else with my night out than watch a movie. Half the time I'd rather watch things on my phone than tv because I don't feel like dealing with the tv interface. The type of screen is irrelevant to me. |
Don Lee and Angelina Jolie should have been a couple. Yeah it's a 'beauty and the beast' situation but it would have been so much more interesting than the main love story which did not hold my attention at all. Also, Don Lee was one of the more enjoyable actors/characters and he should have had a lot more screen time. Actually everyone else besides the main couple was great and interesting and should have had a lot more screen time. |
I thought it was actually nice that they kept it a pure friendship, but I really did not care for Jolie in the role. |

I took a bunch of teenagers and one 11 year old and everyone seemed to like it.
At 2 hours and 37 minutes, it's looong, but I was engaged the whole way through. I didn't mind the wacko plot/story. I actually found it kind of fun and feel like there could be a very fun Jupiter Ascending mashup here. I felt like Angelina Jolie was there to be Angelina Jolie and I was ok with that. That said, she seemed to have an older presence than most of the cast and it didn't really gel with the ensemble. I don't know what they do with her in the next film. I found Salma Hayek sort of blah. I feel like Jolie could have taken that role, someone younger could have been Thena, and maybe Hayek didn't need to be there? I like Gemma Chan as Sersi and think this performance gives her room to grow. I think she was supposed to be second fiddle by design, only realizing her potential at the end. I was completely captivated by Sprite, who my 11 year old bears an uncanny resemblance to. It was like watching my kid up there while she was sitting next to me. I also thought Sprite was literally channeling Claire Danes. Also reminded me of Kirsten Dunst in Interview with a Vampire. Enjoyed the clever/sly casting of Kit Harington with his family's "complicated history." The sex scene was so brief and tame that it was totally unremarkable except it was in a Marvel movie. The same sex kiss didn't bother me at all - he was kissing his husband goodbye for perhaps the last time before the world ends. I don't see how discussing the kiss is explaining an adult theme to a child. If you haven't come across the topic with your kids before I can't imagine a better intro to cover it. |
| Someone younger and stronger in the role of Thena would have been good. I liked Hayek okay, and thought much of the problem was the writing. |
The sex scene did seem out of place. But the same sex kiss, when he was saying goodby to his family and husband? Totally appropriate. |

Ate to the game, finally watched it streaming.
I was underwhelmed, for many of the reasons listed. Jolie was disappointing, her role didn’t gel with the re of the team, and wasn’t convincing as Goddess of War. Too many characters introduced. The story line really wasn’t very good. Why is it that humans on Earth are worth saving, but not inhabitants on other planets? Sex scene was minimal, the same sex couple kiss was no big deal. |
