mugging at gunpoint demanding dog

Don’t peoole all microchip now though? The first time the buyer takes it to a vet, it will be flagged as a stolen dog.

The seller will have sold the dog in some way that is anonymous. They take the money and run. What do they care if the vet tells the new owner that the dog is stolen?

Why do people live in DC? It sounds horrid. If you need to pack heat to walk your dog something is wrong.

Amen to that. You obviously care about giving a dog a good home, rather than it being some sort status symbol.

Oh, shut up.

+1 I've only ever had rescues (or as they used to be called: free dogs), but the bolded is an aggressively stupid take.

Well, my dog doesn't sic balls, so I guess I'd have to give up the dog TO AVOID HAVING MY HEAD BLOWN OFF.

What do you mean, "WWYD?" You give up the damn dog!

Pp you must not love your dog. Would you give up your child so easily? Not saying zi would fight but I wouldnt be so flip in my answer.

I know dog theft is common right now in the UK. I have a rescue cocker spaniel/lab mix, which is actually a designer dog mix in England. And they are getting stolen fairly often.

I do carry pepper spray while walking, but that's about other dogs possibly being aggressive. I don't think I'd be rational if someone stuck a gun in my face. Don't want to die. Also don't want to lose my dog.

I've had a friend shot in NE DC over nothing and survive so no doubt I'd hand over my blind, diabetic dog. Letting them know he's blind and diabetic lol.

Most metropoles are dangerous. I visited my parents recently in a cushy Paris neighborhood, parked the car in the street instead of the garage, and got my window smashed overnight - and nothing was taken, because there was nothing to take. People are desperate. My godfather was robbed at knife point in the Paris Metro. All of this is sadly not uncommon for Paris.

The huge difference between the US and others is firearms deaths. The US has crazy gun permissiveness, and has increased mortality due to gun use, accidental or otherwise, compared to other wealthy nations. Firearm-related death rate per 100,000 population is 12.21. In European countries it's between <1 and 3, depending on the country.

Because a dog is not a child, however much we love both types of dependents.

That was exactly the point. You are not going to get shot in Paris. You very well may get shot in DC. Knowing that, why do people live in DC??

Wow, we made it until page 3 without some nitwit equating dogs and kids. I'd have bet the under.

Don't you have a chip in your dog? Give up the dog, call the police, then call the vet. Simple and everyone lives

It’s not like find my iPhone.

You have to scan the dog and then call the owner.

They use the dog to “train” other dogs for dog fighting- ie the dog is thrown in with a fight dog and is killed.
