Which GPA matters most? UW or weighted?

If the child is in one of the science or math magnets Wheaton Biomedical, Blair math program etc. Then yes they can get a high weighted GPA because most of their classes are honors or AP plus they have the extra middle school component classes. Very few, but a few.

I have a child at Blair and have not seen a 4.89 on Naviance.

It’s almost impossible. We have a couple get close at our W school but none that high. I’d say it’s a troll with Naviance access.

4.8 PHS. Beginning of Senior year. All As. 5 HS credits earned in MS. 2 were honors. These are kids who took AP world lang in 10th grade. Do the Math. In the SMCS pathway, these scores add up, especially if the kid is doing HS level credits in MS.

In fact, the HS level credits at MS actually pulls down the wGPA because there are 3 or 4 credits that are unweighted. If you just take the credits earned during HS ...the wGPA shoots up because the unweighted credits in MS gets dropped. Essentially, these kids have credits from 7 years of school instead of 4. And without the unweighted foundational courses in MS, they would not have been able to do the APs and post-APs early in their HS career.

What an obnoxious tone you took in that post.

You might have been trying to help…but work on that!

I believe that the colleges look at UW GPA first. They will look at course rigor only in the context of what was offered in that particular HS.

My child is at Blair and has a 4.81. And I am definitely seeing 4.89 on Naviance.

I did do the math and it doesn’t add up. 4.8s are somewhat common. Even 4.87s. But not above 4.87.

I only see 4.8 and a little above. Do not see 4.89.

Utterly stupid gamesmanship.

The very, very top gpas at our school appear to have been shut out from Ivys. In at places like Hopkins. After a certain point, the points don’t matter.

I just found three for MIT. Extremely rare though.

I was looking in College Vine and another website like it that I can’t remember. People here have said that their data may not be accurate, but it is what I have access to at the moment. I don’t think we have access to Naviance yet so used these other places to get a sense of things.

I just put together a list. Kiddo plays a sport six days a week sonI decided to create the first big list and we narrow down from there.
Kiddo wants a “big” school near a city. They want to play a certain sport so I have a mix of D1 and D3.

Mostly northeast with a touch of other areas.

Big
UCLA
UNC
U of Fl
Michigan
Stanford
UC San Diego
FSU
UMCP

Random assortment
Kenyon
Bates
Gettysburg
Boston College
Boston U
Carlton
Kalamazoo College

I know, I know. People will say these are all over the map and you can’t tell what we want. D1 and D3 are kinda all over the map.

Yes, I know Stanford is a reach, but I’m okay with letting kiddo try a few of those.

We also to see who needs her player position and where her sports skills are a fit.

Kudos on the achievements!

Kid’s school doesn’t offer that many AP classes. I hope colleges take that into account. There is no way kiddo could take 15, because they aren’t offered.

Yes, of course, they do take that into consideration.

And yet, this child’s parent cannot spell Salutatorian.

I found one for Harvard, with a 1580 SAT. Denied. Wow.

Not worldly enough to have encountered auto-correct, eh?
