Unions and school board candidates

SO in Virginia, the unions have not had any power until maybe this year. Anything you experienced last year and are blaming on the "union" is misplaced because Virgina was a
"right to work commonwealth" meaning that they union did not have ANY power for bargaining or contract negotiations. Teachers joined the union to have a guaranteed lawyer if they were ever accused by crazy parents or children of abuse, neglect etc. If you experienced hell in the last 18 months, it wasn't due to a union so figure out someone else to blame.

Nope. They passed a statement in support but they haven’t passed any official policy yet that would opt-into collective bargaining. There are a lot of steps that have to happen on both the school board and union sides before collective bargaining would begin.

The county board is currently working on drafting a policy.

Feb 2021 at the earliest, and even then the contract for the 20-21 school year was already written and not changed. Pandemic-wise the only thing that happened after Feb 2021 is school opened, so OP is barking up the wrong tree. Unless, I am reading OP wrong and they wanted virtual forever.

Still, there are no CBAs between school boards and employees. In most paces it is highly unlikely that collective bargaining will be in place for even the 2021-2022 school year.
