Why no 2hrs delay?

They won’t kick your kid out, but MCPS considers it an unexcused tardy if you transport your kids. It is only an excused tardy if the school bus is late. I used to write my kids a note that they threw up but then felt better. No go with Covid now.

2. The neighbor packs up 3 kids under 6 and drives the middle-schooler.

I suppose there must be a reason why the neighbor can't do this. It's the obvious solution.

Seriously? Close for rain? Snowflakes.

Presumably, close for flooding.

So, it is flooding just like that today?

In a few parts of Montgomery County, yes.

I don't think that MCPS should have closed or delayed today, but "closed for rain" - because of flooding - is actually a thing, and sometimes a good idea.

Yes apparently OP has 12.5" of water outside of her house. Perhaps she is going to be rescued by boat...

What is the penalty for unexcused tardy? Nothing too, too serious, I hope.

Seriously so annoying. Lots of flooding near my house so the school bus just skipped some stops? Saw the bus around, but it never came… so I had to drive my kid and she was late. MCPS needs a better plan.

Again, if your kid is late for school or you choose to keep them home due to safety concerns, it's not the end of the world. Just write a note.

These kids have had a enough disruptions over the past 2 years, they need consistency. I know this will upset the people who had flooding, but you as a parent make the decision on what is safe or not for your child.

How was “MCPS” supposed to know your kid’s bus would skip a couple stops?

False. MCPS closes at least once a year for an “ice storm” or sleet that turns out to be a rainy winter day.

MCPS operates the buses and is responsible for transportation. If your bus driver skips your stop it’s literally their fault.

Where I live, those "ice storms" are usually ice storms.
