They won’t kick your kid out, but MCPS considers it an unexcused tardy if you transport your kids. It is only an excused tardy if the school bus is late. I used to write my kids a note that they threw up but then felt better. No go with Covid now. |
I suppose there must be a reason why the neighbor can't do this. It's the obvious solution. |
| Seriously? Close for rain? Snowflakes. |
Presumably, close for flooding. https://www.wusa9.com/article/news/local/maryland/frederick-county-defends-not-canceling-school-on-flood-day-ida-impacts-dmv/65-90030a88-e571-43de-91fe-b946884d9f71 |
So, it is flooding just like that today? |
In a few parts of Montgomery County, yes. I don't think that MCPS should have closed or delayed today, but "closed for rain" - because of flooding - is actually a thing, and sometimes a good idea. |
Yes apparently OP has 12.5" of water outside of her house. Perhaps she is going to be rescued by boat... |
What is the penalty for unexcused tardy? Nothing too, too serious, I hope. |
| Seriously so annoying. Lots of flooding near my house so the school bus just skipped some stops? Saw the bus around, but it never came… so I had to drive my kid and she was late. MCPS needs a better plan. |
|
Again, if your kid is late for school or you choose to keep them home due to safety concerns, it's not the end of the world. Just write a note.
These kids have had a enough disruptions over the past 2 years, they need consistency. I know this will upset the people who had flooding, but you as a parent make the decision on what is safe or not for your child. |
DP: correction, OP had 18” of water running down the street. |
How was “MCPS” supposed to know your kid’s bus would skip a couple stops? |
False. MCPS closes at least once a year for an “ice storm” or sleet that turns out to be a rainy winter day. |
MCPS operates the buses and is responsible for transportation. If your bus driver skips your stop it’s literally their fault. |
Where I live, those "ice storms" are usually ice storms. |
