This. We live in Fort Hunt and our kids have all gone to private schools. Judge me all you want, but almost half of the local public school population lives in extreme poverty. Fort Hunt is not a place full of poverty, but the schools don’t reflect that (unlike Oakton, McLean, Madison, etc. that have minimal FARMs rate). The Fort Hunt public schools have a lot to deal with as a result. |
What’s wrong with that? That’s why private schools exist. No different than Prince George’s County. |
Fort Hunt grad here. I went there before they merged the two schools. Fort Hunt was a great school. Great reputation. Great teachers. Competitive sports teams. Lots of school spirit. The merger was highly contested by families from both Ft. Hunt and Groveton. It was fought, unsuccessfully. We are talking two rival schools being combined into one. And, they essentially took two "neighborhood" schools and made it a conglomerate. Ft. Hunt was a wonderful place to grow up. Still have lots of friends who went to Ft. Hunt, settled in the area, and are still living there. |
