We have to replace two cars with 130k and 160k miles separately. How likely will there be holiday discounts at the year end?

Yes. I generally replace my cars at around 125k and am overdue for an upgrade to my 2010 Pilot w/ 150k, but will wait until prices come down a bit. Used car prices are ridiculous too- my brother just sold his 2016 Pilot for $29k- only 8k less than he paid for it new!!

Does anyone think this is going to be permanent, now that they are used to charging sky high prices, this will be the new normal?

meaning, if one is in the new car market, does it make sense to buy a new car now, instead of waiting until next year when MSRPs may even be higher?

Reading this thread is depressing. I have a 9-year-old car, which is fine but had hoped to replace it when it turns 10 next year. I had no idea people had to pay over MSRP.

Keep your car. Take it to a car detailer, have the inside professionally cleaned, paint work buffed and polished, get the engine steam cleaned. You will feel good about driving your car again and that will be a lot cheaper than replacing your car just because it will be 10 years old next year.

Could be. But if the prices are going to be sky high, I would bet that people will hang on to their vehicles for a lot longer before they look for a new one.

I have a 20 year old Honda I've decided to keep going until prices and inventory are better.

My plan was to buy a used small SUV for kids to drive, but I couldn't get myself to pay so much extra for a used car due to shortage. We ended up buying a new SUV that my husband drives and let the kids drive his 2018 car. We got the the new car for MSRP, and feel that in years' past we would have gotten it for at least a couple of thousand under. We had to really shop around and bought it from an out of town dealer. I held out as long as I could in hopes it would get better, but it seems to have maybe gotten a little worse. We couldn't find one in my preferred exterior/interior color at the price we wanted. I think 2023 is the best bet for more inventory.
