Don’t think they did, but they did stop allowing transfers for IB. |
What school is Cardinal? Is that what they are calling Reed, the new school that was just built?? |
Yes - previously McKinley |
Oh OK got it - I thought McKinley was now ATS! |
The old McKinley building is now ATS. The Reed building is now called Cardinal and has most of the old McKinley students. |
They totally messed it up. So annoying. APS needs to stop listening to the small and frantic groups of whiner parents and do the right thing from the get go. There is a graveyard of decisions made to appease whiners that end up not being the right thing long-term. |
What's the info on Taylor? |
According to the principal last night, Taylor has 506 students. But Taylor also lost planning units in the boundary change that took effect this fall-- those units moved to ASFS. You'd think that would mean smaller classes, but no. My kid's 1st grade has 26 students in it. They have more 1st graders this year than they did kindergarten students last year, even with a smaller school boundary! |
It is more helpful to see these numbers in relation to building capacity. Hamm 854 (Building capacity 1000) Gunston 1,114 (Building capacity 992) Jefferson 852 (Building capacity 1,086) Kenmore 932 (Building capacity 1,045) Swanson 891 (Building capacity 948) Williamsburg 791 (Building Capacity 997) So you can see why they feel pressed to deal with Gunston but just generally don't want to upset the apple cart until they see where things land post covid. Down the road, they likely need to move kids out of Swanson though. And the parents really fight that. |
Taylor - 427 (-29.5% vs. June 2020) |
Where are you getting that number? At back to school night last night, the Taylor principal said as of yesterday there were 506 students. |
Is her presentation posted somewhere? I've been looking for it but can't find it. |
Yes, approximately 500 more seats. But extremely limited new common space - essentially just space that can serve multiple purposes, including eating lunch. But no new gym, music, auditorium or library space and - obviously - no few field space. |
Apologies --> I meant 498 (Tuckahoe is 427; alphabetical order problems); the -29.5% is correct though. That is of 6 am on September 3rd. |
The -29.5% is in no small part due to the rezoning. Taylor lost a lot of kids to ASFS. |
