We just adopted two dogs and I'm looking into setting up some refresher training for them. They're about a year old each but are fast and STRONG, I need to have them better "behave" so that they don't pull my arm out of my socket! The sites I've looked at vary, everything from $80 for 8 weeks of training, to $900 for in-home training.
For those of you that have been there and done that, what do you recommend, and what sort of costs should expect? We've got 3 kids and both WOH (although very flexible hours, telework, etc. etc.), so I'm thinking home-based training would be most ideal. |
I would generally suggest starting with a regular training class and then amp up from there if need be. We did a 6-week basic obedience class on Saturday mornings and then later did a tricks class that was really fun. (Bonus: tricks class really tires out their tiny dog brains and makes them sleepy.) I think we paid $150 per course.
However, since you have two dogs and three kids, that complicates the logistics. Generally, a class would want both adults (if not the whole family) to attend. Surely there is an in-home option that isn't quite so expensive? |
We are paying out of the nose -- 1800 for three weeks of intensive training. But, it's four days a week and we sre seeing results immediately
Also, ours is a puppy so we are doing a lot of heel, sit and stay trainig |
OP here, holy moly with 1800! Best of luck to you, I may be willing to pay that if this stuff keeps up, lol. |
1800 hundred person here.. We both woh and have a 4 year old. Quick and serious training is what we needed so I was willing to pay for it. Training includes three one hit handling sessions so we know what to do to reinforce his training. It has been a godsend -- I figure we will have the pup for 10-15 years, 1800 initially is a small investment, all things considered |
