| How close would you be willing to live to a prison if the house was the right price, good schools and (believe it or not) fairly low crime |
| Are you concerned about aesthetics of the prison? Inmates escaping? Prisoners released out of the front door? |
| No, because the sirens (for drills) would annoy me. |
| How close? |
| My sister lives near Ossining. The only concern that's come up is when you put her area into the sex offender registry, many, MANY offenders come up. But most buyers can figure out that the reason is because they are all safely locked up nearby. |
| it's about 5 miles away |
| No. |
| I wouldn't. Prisoners have families who visit them. Their families are generally people I wouldn't want in my neighborhood. |
| never |
hmmm good point |
Do you consider something five miles away to be "in your neighborhood?" |
|
Proving once again the asians are better at prisons than americans
|
|
If a zombie apocalypse happens, you'll be glad to have a prison nearby to convert into a fortified home.
But steer clear of any neighborhoods called "woodbury." |
| "north" Potomac anyone? Five miles no worries, one mile or less, wouldn't buy. There's a reason for the price discount give the good schools and nice house. It's in what the market prces as a relativeless desirable area. |
| I'd worry about re-sell value. Sorta like yourself OP - worrying about whether to buy or not. When it comes to your turn to sell, will a buyer be debating the same thing you are? |
