| Ordering cupcakes for DD's birthday--can I order them to pick them up the day before or are day old cupcakes not as good? Bakery is not close by and not somethiing I want to deal with the morning of her 11am party! |
| Day old cupcakes are fine. Just refrigerate them and take them out an hour or so in advance so thy come to room temperature. Cream cheese frosting may be harder the next day but they'll be ok. |
|
oh no no no no no... do NOT refrigerate cupcakes. they will become much drier much faster. it's the worst. you can freeze cupcakes and thaw with better results, but personally i prefer to avoid both freezing and refrigerating.
personally i would do same day. if it was absolutely impossible i would get them the day before, place them in a cool-ish spot, in the box. |
| Day old is fine. Don't stress. The kids won't know the difference. |
| Oh my goodness. |
| We were just in the hospital, and someone gave us cupcakes, and we ate them the next day. Blech, they were awful. |
| Do not refrigerate. They will get stale! |
| Do you even know if the bakery will be making them that day? |
| OP here. Yes, they said they would make that morning. Hmmm ... going to have to think about this. |
| Make them yourself out of cake mix, canned frosting, and sprinkles. They will last forever and no one will be able to tell when they were made. |
| I always pick them up the day before and I always put them in the fridge. I don't want to risk giving anyone food poisoning even if it means they get an itty bit stale. |
| Where does food poisoning in cupcakes from? The frosting? |
| save youself the haassle and get them the day before. Do you think kids will care if they are a little stale? most bakeries make them a day in advance anyway. |
| Probably the frosting which has butter and sometimes even egg or cream cheese. |
|
So really? You all throw away the extras if you don't eat them all? Do you also throw away cookies? Or extra cake?
I have eaten old cupcakes, like days old, and not gotten sick. I guess if it was cream cheese frosting... But butter can sit out on the counter and not go bad for like a week. |
