Question for parents of kids in DC charters: Enrolling mid-year at a Charter School?

Anonymous
We may be moving to DC mid-year and would love to have DD attend one of the recommended charter schools (EL Haynes, Cap City, Two Rivers). Can kids moving in from out of the district ever get admitted mid-year? Do you ever see new students in your kids class mid-year? Or do these kids have to wait until the next academic year and get in via the lottery?

I am responding based on what I'd expect vs. what I know but I would believe that since only 10% of those that apply get in through the lottery to these schools, that it is very, very rare that spots open up. And if they do, I would think that they fill in according to the previous year's lottery rankings.

How old is your daughter? It might make a difference. I also do think there is some movement mid-year so it's certainly worth calling the schools.

She would be in third grade.

Definitely call the charters and even regular DCPS schools if there are any you like. It's not unusual for kids to move mid-year.

OP here. Thanks so much!

OP, you thinking about a move pending the election results maybe.....?

OP here. Ahhh... that would be so much more interesting than the reality. Nope. Just a regular job change, not related to the election season.
