| I have an interview in another state. When I first spoke to my contact (not HR - I had a contact at the company), he stated they would fly me down. But when we started talking dates for the interview, he told me to let him know when I booked my ticket. Before I ask about reimbursement, I am curious if I should expect flight and hotel to be reimbursed? (I had assumed yes, but now I am not sure.) Any advice on the best way to ask? It's an in-house legal position if that matters. |
| I would go on the assumption that it was on me. Definitely wouldn't bring it up. If they ask you about reimbursement then it's a bonus. |
| Any time a company has paid for my travel for an interview, it has been booked through their travel office, I never had to pay and then ask for reimbursement. |
This. Or it was clear before the interview. One time it was not and they did not pay for it. |
| Dh has had 3 interviews out of state recently. Two booked his hotel and flight through their travel office. He paid for the 3rd himself b/c they told him to let them know when he'd be in the area. |
| I've done interviews where I paid upfront and then was reimbursed. I would ask. |
|
"I booked my flight for 3/22. Should I fax the receipt for reimbursement to you directly?"
Its HR. This isnt going to keep you from getting a job. |
| If it's a small company, it might be the case that you arrange your own travel/accomodations and then submit for reimbursement. If it's a bigger company, chances are that they would want to arrange it for you (through their travel agent or whatever). I would 1)definitely check with HR before booking your own, in case they reimburse but only if you use their travel agent and also 2)as PP said, plan on it being on your dime and then consider it a bonus if you get reimbursed. |
| The fed govt generally does not pay/reimburse for travel for interviews, but most private companies will. |
