High fever, but its not strep, ear infection, or bronchitis

Anonymous
Dd had classic cold symptoms - green snot and cough. It's accompanied by random high fevers. The doctor checked her ears and lungs and they were fine. Step test came back negative. 3 kids and they've never gotten high fevers from just a cold. It's usually been from accompanying double ear infection. The doctor said to bring her back if he fever went back up to check her lungs again. Thing is she isn't coughing anymore. And of course the fever came back after they closed.

I'm stumped

Typical virus. She will be fine. Just a cold.

Virus rather than a cold? Call Dr back in the am if the fever is still there. How many days has the child had a fever? Is the fever just going down due to ibuprofen?

We just went through this with DS. He had a fever for 7 days. Pede checked him on days 2 and 4 -- all clear. A strong cough developed on day 3, but lungs were clear. Very strange but he seems fine now. Doc said it's just a cold.

Fever started Tuesday. Spiked highest on Wednesday night - 104.5, chills, hallucinations, etc. Motrin brought it down to about 101 for about 6 hours, then it dropped to normal for another 6 or so. Back up again yesterday afternoon but responding to Motrin. Normal temp last night and most of the day and then back up to 102 this afternoon.

She is fine... If it can be controlled by medicine, and it seems to lower each day, without medicine, them nothing to worry about.

Influenza or sinusitis. get a CBC w/ Diff, run a strep culture as well , not just the rapid ( is often false neg if tested too soon)

Follow the leads found in the CBC results.
