There are still openings in the Cleveland Park Camp for this summer. They offer
one and three week sessions, and go later than most camps into August. The website and two high recommendations from families who attend are below. Swimming lessons can also be scheduled for afternoons following camp hours. ************************************* All - I'm writing to let folks know that the Cleveland Park Camp, a neighborhood gem, has a few openings this summer. The camp welcomes kids ages 5-9 across the city (not just members of the club). My boys have attended the camp since they were five and loved it. Our oldest son, almost eleven, can't wait to join an energetic cadre of CITs this year, many of whom were fellow campers with him for several years. It's a low-key, intimate, warm, and welcoming camp where kids swim (and can take lessons if desired); learn old-fashioned games like jump-roping, stilt walking, and four square; complete original arts & crafts projects, sing; engage in storytelling; participate in "Friday performances;" make friends; and -- again -- enjoy the seemingly boundless energy of attentive, older CITs. My older son is typically a high energy child who likes traditional, competitive sports, but this camp continually draws his affection. The camp ends in the early afternoon (a challenge for those of us who work) so we always come up with creative child care arrangements, sometimes sharing a babysitter with fellow parents (an extra expense that is compensated by the fact that the camp is relatively inexpensive). The fact that we do this extra leg work is a testament to how much we love the camp. For more information, see www.clevelandparkcamp.org <http://www.clevelandparkcamp.org> . ------ Forwarded Message Dear parents, I am writing to tell you about a special camp a few blocks from school and invite you to consider sending your children ages 5-9 to attend with my daughters, Lila and Aloe. We have been attending the camp for 3 years and I am also involved with the Cleveland Park Club (where the camp takes place) as a board member. The Cleveland Park Camp offers a warm and welcoming setting. The informal program combines old-fashioned, self-directed play and organized, hands-on, guided activities. Campers expand their interests, increase their skills, and make lasting friendships in this atmosphere reminiscent of the days when neighborhood children of all ages spontaneously gathered for Jump Rope and Capture the Flag. The camp is intentionally small. Each week, about 40 campers attend and 14 Counselors-in-Training (CITs) volunteer to play, teach, and help. All activities, with a few exceptions, take place outdoors. And of course, there is a pool! For more information, please visit: www.clevelandparkclub.org. See you at camp! |
